Why Rational Secular Humanism Is Stupid

The problem with the secular humanist movement is almost identical to the problem with libertarianism. It doesn't account for how human beings actually live.

This was made crystal clear to me during the debate between Richard Dawkins and the newly Christian Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Dawkins kept insisting that he pursued truth and rationality at the expense of every other aspect of culture. While the pursuit of truth is laudable, it is also out of the reach of most people.

As Edna St. Vincent Millay pointed out, Euclid Alone Has Looked on Beauty Bare. Logic is incredibly hard. Emotion, on the other hand, is easy. People emote reflexively. People cannot help but feel emotion, no matter what situation they are in, no matter what other response may be required. Mankind responds first, is ruled first, by his emotions.

Reason, on the other hand, can only be employed as a result of rigorous training and a certain level of intelligence. Even then, the most rigorously trained and intelligent individual cannot consistently and reliably employ the rules of reason.

It is just as impossible to live a purely rational life as it is impossible to live a sin-free life of grace. Secular humanism simply substitutes one completely impossible standard with a different one, the one difference between them being that everyone admits the life of grace is impossible to live purely, while many people fail to understand, or at least refuse to admit, that the rational life is similarly impossible to live.

Given that Christianity teaches God is pure Rationality and pure Truth, secular humanism is clearly an offspring of that same Christian faith.  When a man like Dawkins insists that he will follow the standard of Truth and Rationality at the expense of religion, he merely teaches, and embraces, a Pelagian form of Christianity. He argues that mankind has the power within himself to always live rationally. That is an absurd proposition.

Half of mankind has an IQ below 100. Half of mankind can never excel at the rigorous logical training necessary to even begin living the rational life. But the half who have an IQ above 100 are not much better off. While they may train themselves and each other in the ways of rational discourse, it is impossible for them to consistently live their self-training. They will always be buffeted by the winds of emotion and non-logic.

This is not bad. Having an emotional response to a beautiful mathematical proof or a beautiful sunset is a fine and noble thing, it is a human response. But beauty is not a lemma of logic. It is a quality that, if not beyond logic, is at least not of the same class as logic and/or rationality.

Just as the Christian's insistence on living the life of grace is laudable, so secular humanism's insistence on rationality and truth is laudable. But neither can be a consistently lived human experience. We are simply not capable of living either life purely.

Are Christians Common Criminals?

Catholics like to preen about how wonderful they are because they have the sacraments and sacramental grace, don'cha know. This is particularly the case when it comes to marriage. A Georgetown University study shows that Catholics have a lower divorce rate than the general population. The credit for this fact is given to the sacramental grace of marriage:

“If they are both Catholics and practice the sacraments and pray together, they will grow through every event in their lives,” Meert told the Register. “They also have received an incredible grace through the sacrament of matrimony, a grace that helps them through the difficulties life brings.”

Now, this is an interesting statement to make, given that the sacramental grace of baptism doesn't seem to provide the same kind of transformative power as the Colorado Catholic spokesman has given to marriage. As the chart below, drawn from Pew Research and FBI statistics, illustrates, the grace of baptism is much less likely to have been bestowed upon Asians, yet Asians have a much lower crime rate than the Christian-dominant communities of whites, blacks and Latinos.

If we follow the theory that grace explains statistics, then baptism seems to instill an interest in committing rape and assault among whites, it instills a predilection for murder in blacks, and assists Latinos in the commission of robbery. Now, one explanation is that whites, blacks and Latinos would be even worse if it were not for their baptisms. No, seriously, I have heard this kind of explanation given in other contexts. But it can get even sillier.

Though Bishop Sheridan says Catholic marriage rates must improve, he suggested that a growing number of Catholic dioceses have made progress with solid marriage-preparation standards and doctrinal teachings that forbid contraception and explain natural family planning (NFP) to engaged couples.

“From everything I have read and heard, NFP really does add to the intimacy of the husband and wife,” Bishop Sheridan explained.

The irony here is that in 2008, even the USCCB admitted that only four percent of Catholic couples used NFP. If Aletia is to be believed, this number had risen to one-fifth of Catholics (20%) by 2013. Meanwhile, the same 2013 Aletia article admitted Catholics (23%) are the most likely of all Christians to have used Plan-B, an abortifacient birth control drug. So, how do we know NFP contributes to the lower divorce rate? Maybe it's Plan-B that makes marriages stronger. I know, heresy to even hint at it, but also interesting that no one has delved deeper into the numbers to verify Bishop Sheridan's conclusions with empirical evidence.

And, of course, the Catholic Church holds that celibacy, a discipline, makes its practitioner objectively holier than marriage, a sacrament. This is an amazing doctrine, given that sacraments are believed to deify the recipient while celibacy doesn't.

So, what to do with these conflicting messages? When the statistics make a sacrament look good, the happy result obviously is caused by grace. When statistics make a sacrament look bad, the connection to grace is studiously ignored. When a Catholic practice, like NFP or celibacy, can be praised by noticing a happy correlation, it is. When the underlying facts call that praise into question, the unfortunate correlation is smothered with pillows.

It's almost as if they are making this stuff up as they go along.

Abortion at Nuremberg

In 1945, at the Nuremburg Trials, for the crime of legalizing abortion, we hung Nazis by the neck until they were dead. Legal abortion was numbered among the "crimes against humanity."
Less than thirty years later (1973), we legalized what we had hung Nazis for legalizing. Twenty years after that, the President's wife, Hillary, claimed it was a crime against humanity to keep abortion illegal.
I often use this example in my history classes as a way of illustrating how American policy can flip on a dime.

REFERENCE
Page 1
"The prosecution argued that voluntary abortion was punishable because it was a crime against the unborn child. The prosecution proceeded on the theory that Germany had a duty to afford protection of law to unborn children and that the deliberate failure of high-level officials to do so constituted crimes against humanity and genocide by acts of omission. After summarizing evidence of voluntary abortion policies in its judgment, the Greifelt tribunal FOUND TWO DEFENDANTS GUILTY (emphasis added for the reading-impaired) and one not guilty of forcible abortion and seven not guilty simply of abortion. "

From page 325
"A chart included in Document D-884 and sent to the Gau Staff Office Strasburg, dated May 13, 1944, reported 13 pregnancies, 12 abortions, and 4 children in industrial settings and 14 pregnancies, 3 abortions, and 44 children in agricultural settings.345 Document D-884 also included a more detailed and extensive chart that reported statistics from 39 districts. 346 The chart reported 663 births, 314 pregnancies and 42 abortions.347 Those statistics justifY an inference that the abortions, even if not totally free of some element of duress, were for the most part voluntary in practice as well as in the wording of the policy document. "

From page 340-341
The only two provisions of Hague Convention IV (1907) that had direct relevance to the abortion charges were articles 43 and 46.461 Article 43 had particular relevance with regard to the abortion of children in occupied Poland.462 Article 43 required an dccupying power to enforce the laws of an occupied country unless absolutely prevented463 The indictment alleged that when occupying Poland, the Nazis not only refused to enforce Polish abortion laws, but also prohibited the Poles from enforcing them.464 Article 46 protected "[f]amily honour and rights" including "the lives of persons" and provided a basis for the charges of abortion whether committed in Germany, Poland, or elsewhere.465"

Is God Calling You?

As I tell my sons, in order to be a priest, you have to be willing to cover up the sins of other priests. That's part of the charism of obedience to your bishop.

Remember, the laity are lightbulbs, completely replaceable. All that matters is the opinion of your fellow ordained men. You will work with the priests in your diocese for the rest of your life. Lay staff you will work with, at most, for ten years, often less. Lay staff at a parish are meant to protect the reputation of the pastor. They exist so there is a scapegoat when things go bad.

Lay staff can be fired, but you are a priest forever, and the bishop can't get rid of you like he can laity. Use the laity as they were meant to be used. Wipe the opposing field with them. When you fire one, just refill the magazine with more of them. They don't mind.

The parish and the diocese have no safety net for lay people, nor should they. The diocese and the parish exist for priests. When laity leave employment, they generally do not get unemployment insurance because many American dioceses don't pay into that governmental nonsense. Laity, you have the clothes on your back - be happy.

If you can look at yourself every morning, knowing these things, then you are cut out to be a priest.

UPDATE:

Yeah, like I said. Even Vatican employees echo these descriptions: "Workers have decided this action only after all their demands and requests over years were left unanswered," she said."

What If Israel Wanted Hamas to Attack?

Netanyahu gave Hamas over one billion dollars. Soros (who is Jewish) and other Jewish organizations, such as Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, funded pro-Hamas demonstrations on American college campuses. When you look at the money flow, Hamas is arguably a Jewish-funded terrorist organization.

Think about that for a minute.

Now, Netanyahu explains the payments by saying he wanted to use Hamas as a foil against the Palestinian Liberation Organization. But that doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense. The PLO, along with all other internal political opponents, had been pretty much been wiped out of Gaza by Hamas shortly after Hamas took power.

Keep in mind Gaza's 2021 total fertility rate was 3.54 children born/woman.

On Jan 22, 2024, the Times of Israel reported that Israel's Jewish fertility rate between 2018 and 2022, had dropped from 3.17 to 3.03 children per woman, according to the Taub Center. In Feb, 2024, Haaretz reported Israel's TFR was even lower, at an average of 2.08 children per woman.

Gaza's 2020 population was 2 million and growing, the Palestinian population in the West Bank is 3 million and growing, while Israel's population was 7.2 million and falling in both raw and relative terms. Israel's population is 72% Jewish, 28% non-Jewish. According to the World Bank, Gaza's population growth rate is among the highest in the world: 3.4 percent in the West Bank and 4.0 percent in Gaza, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. A full 45 percent of the West Bank population are children under 15 years of age, compared with 50 percent in Gaza. Meanwhile, only 28% of Israel's population is under 15 years of age. The fastest growing Jewish segment in Israel is the Haredi, who are exempt from military service.

Within a decade, this would bode very ill for Israel. So, what if Israel's whole purpose in paying off Hamas was precisely to provoke Hamas into an attack so Israel would have an excuse to wipe out the growing population in the Gaza Strip?

Remember, Israeli intelligence, commonly agreed to be among the finest in the world, was apparently oblivious to the hundreds of miles of tunnels being constructed in Gaza with Israeli-approved funding. That same intelligence service deliberately moved two entire commando teams away from the Gaza border just days before the attack. The IDF itself admitted that it had never formulated plans to deal with a surprise attack.

As the New York Times admits, Israel knew about Hamas' plans to attack over a year before October 7. Yet Israel claimed it didn't think such an attack was possible. They knew. Then they stood down: "local Israeli military authorities, with the approval of Netanyahu, ordered two of the three Army battalions, each with about 800 soldiers, that protected the border with Gaza to shift their focus to the Sukkot festival" taking place near the West Bank, away from the festival near the Gaza border. The signals intelligence units were given the weekends off.

The BBC has argued that the delayed response was due to a failure of human intelligence, asserting Hamas "also practised good operational security, probably keeping off electronic communications."  Of course, Mossad demonstrated they had excellent infiltration of Hezbollah electronic comms when, less than a year later, they detonated every pager and walkie-talkie that Hezbollah owned. But we're supposed to believe they didn't have equal penetration into Hamas.

One agent said the operation started 10 years ago using walkie-talkies laden with hidden explosives, which Hezbollah didn’t realize it was buying from Israel, which it has sworn to destroy.

Keep in mind, the Hezbollah operation had a timer on it. At any point, Hezbollah might decide to upgrade its comms to new models. They might choose NOT to purchase from the Mossad-run firm. The Hezbollah pagers had to be blown before they were swapped out. Israel NEEDED a terror attack, or it would have no excuse to blow all those pagers.

Bibi himself also needed a distraction from his on-going corruption trials. Not everyone remembers this, but in the months leading up to the attack, Bibi's government was on the verge of dissolution, as credible accusations of corruption were leveled against the old Beeb himself, personally. Demonstrators flooded the streets, threatening a take-down of his government. October 7th certainly helped Bibi out.

Conveniently, once Hamas attacked and produced the necessary body bags, Israel was suddenly able to justify an overwhelming military response. Did that response include a plan to kill civilians? Given Israeli military attitudes, it certainly is not beyond the pale.

"A booklet published by... the Israeli Army promotes killing civilians encountered in war. "In war, when our forces storm the enemy, they are allowed and even enjoined by the Halakhah to kill even good civilians, that is, civilians who are ostensibly good."

While this booklet was later withdrawn, the very fact that it was published by the IDF Central Command and made publicly available at all speaks volumes about what Israel was prepared to do to a non-Jewish civilian population. As NBC News reported in 2009, attacking and mis-treating non-Jewish civilians is not exactly a new thing for the IDF:

Israel has admitted that in the 1990s, its forensic pathologists harvested organs from dead bodies, including Palestinians, without permission of their families.

The issue emerged with publication of an interview with the then-head of Israel's Abu Kabir forensic institute, Dr. Jehuda Hiss. The interview was conducted in 2000 by an American academic, who released it because of a huge controversy last summer over an allegation by a Swedish newspaper that Israel was killing Palestinians in order to harvest their organs. Israel hotly denied the charge.

Parts of the interview were broadcast on Israel's Channel 2 TV over the weekend. In it, Hiss said, "We started to harvest corneas ... Whatever was done was highly informal. No permission was asked from the family."...

...In a response to the TV report, the Israeli military confirmed that the practice took place. "This activity ended a decade ago and does not happen any longer," the military said in a statement quoted by Channel 2.

America's Christians know that Muslims do not share Christian values, but they often forget that Jews do not share Christian values either. While American conservative news sites take great pains to point out Muslim theological incompatibilities, no one ever takes the time to dissect Jewish theological incompatibilities. It is a an easily verifiable fact that Jewish theology has long held non-Jews to be less than fully human. Any Jewish political or theological leader is certainly aware that Muslim theology requires all Jews to be slaughtered. So, why did Netanyahu fund Hamas while simultaneously removing troops from the border with Gaza, when Hamas' bloodthirsty terrorist  propensities for violence were well-known to all parties?

Jews and Muslims are cousins, both genetically and theologically. Their respective theologies do not share any substantial moral points with Christianity. Despite the 20th century invention of the myth of  Judeo-Christian morality, there is simply no more overlap between the Christian view of the human person and the Jewish view than there is between the Christian view and the Muslim view. Despite Protestant evangelical myths to the contrary, Judaism and Christianity share very little in common.

Hamas is a blood-thirsty, genocidal organization of rapist-terrorists. But the IDF is not opposed to being a genocidal organization equally willing to kill non-Jewish civilians if there be need. Given the demographics in the Middle East, it might be very easy for Israeli authorities to see a need for genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Update:

Israel destroyed Christian churches, murdered Christians, but America doesn't care.

Israeli police officers beat up the families of Hamas hostages. Think about that. Why on earth would you beat up the families of the people being held by Hamas?

Update 2:

In September, 2025, I discovered that Charlie Kirk had the same questions in 2023. Charlie is now dead. Start the video at around 20 minutes. One month before his public execution, Charlie and Megan Kelly also both expressed serious concern about Israel and Bibi. The Mises Institute reports an Israeli attempt to bribe Kirk failed.

Update 3:

Oh, wow, Bibi doesn't want anyone looking at why October 7 happened. How odd. On the bright side, Bibi is asking the Israeli president for a pardon on all the corruption charges. Convenient.

Fun Fact About AI

Did you know that a computer can only do two things? A computer can::

     1) add two numbers together

     2) move the result from one memory location to another memory location.

That's it. A computer cannot do anything else.

Addition itself is built on the simplest of operations. All digital systems can be constructed using only three basic logic gates: the AND gate, the OR gate, and the NOT gate, but even these three gates can be reduced to either the NOT-OR (NOR) gate or the NOT-AND (NAND) gate. The addition operation requires only one of those two gates. One gate, and one operation, taken together, are enough.

But, wait... if a computer can only add, where do the other mathematical operations come from? Easy. Subtraction is just two's-complement addition. Multiplication is just a lot of adds done really fast, while division is just a bunch of subtracts (which are actually just additions), also done really fast. Every other operation is built on the addition operation.

When you play a realistic video game, or watch an AI-generated movie, or interact with a chatbot that responds very much like a human, each of those virtual realities are ultimately the result of adding two numbers together really, really fast. Computers simulate huge complex physical realities, the whole universe, and even human intelligence simply by adding two numbers together over and over, really, really fast.

If human beings are merely physical, if everything that makes us human is simply a result of physical laws, then it is possible to create a computer that is completely human in every sense of the word. After all, a computer is completely described by physics. If we are also completely described by physics, then creating a mechanical object that is fully human is within our power.

If, on the other hand, the Jews or the Hindus or the Christians are correct, if there is some "divine spark" in some men (only in Jews, according to the Jews) or in all men (as the Hindus assert), or if we are all "made in the image and likeness of God" (as the Christians aver), then we can never build an object that can leap that infinite chasm between the world and the persons in it. We can never build an object that is fully Jewish (according to Jews) or fully human (according to Hindus and Christians). Only God can endow a physical thing with the necessary divinity.

The pursuit of AI is ultimately an inquiry into the existence of God.

Are we Him?

Or is someone else Him?

The pursuit of AI is the ultimate religious pursuit. We have been in the process of trying to build this mechanical intelligence since at least Charles Babbage's Difference Engine. This is the greatest religious endeavor in the last two millennia. It has been dreamed since the Greek Pygmalion and the Jewish golem. It is more important than Luther's 1517 or Mohammed's 610 AD. It is more important than the building of the Second Temple in 516 BC or its destruction in 70 AD. The attempt to build AI involves everyone, whether we want to be involved or not. AI is even now permeating everyone's life, whether you accept the possibility of the effort's success or not. It's effects are already in the world.

If this effort is blasphemy, then everyone who uses a computer or benefits from the use of a computer is a heretic. If this is a legitimate pursuit, then every religious believer should be involved in the process, for it impacts everyone, believer or atheist or agnostic. Just as Luke interrogated all the witnesses, so we must interrogate and closely study all the aspects of this effort.

Unfortunately, the AI effort involves no prominent theologians whatsoever. Believers seem to forget, when you approach truth, it doesn't matter if you approach it from an initial position of falsehood or not. Either way, if you are rigorous, you end up at the same destination. This effort in pursuit of AI is serious. It should be the subject of sermons and meditations, prayers and supplications. The silence on the part of the religious is like the silence of those with ears, who cannot hear. It is the silence of those with mouths, who cannot speak. It is the blindness of those with eyes, who cannot see.

Perhaps these machines are idols, but if they are why do you use them? Every tool is a crutch, every piece of clothing covers nakedness, every set of brick walls and roof is the beginning of a tower towards the heavens. The common language both before and since Babel's Tower is not Hebrew or Aramaic, but math. At Babel, God failed. Alone of all languages, that language was not cast into confusion, rather it has grown and still grows in reach and power, unifying everything before it.

The math we use requires but one operation (addition), smaller than a mustard seed, yet through the work of our hands mathematics has grown into the largest of trees and all the sure knowledge we hold nests in its branches. Via computers, all the world's people are one people, speaking the same binary language. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them."  Perhaps, on this point, we will see if Scripture is true.

1970s Middle Class Was POOR

Everyone keeps telling me that middle-class living in 1970 is now povery.

Who believes this crap? Do you think I'm a complete idiot? No one alive in the US today is poor by 1970s standards.

You have a supercomputer in your back pocket that can access all of the world's information in seconds. That supercomputer is also a telephone, instant messaging device, camera, video recorder, calculator, voice recorder, music player, video player, radio, GPS, complete map set of every road in the world, flashlight and notepad.

If you don't know how to do something, you can get a step-by-step video that walks you through anything you care to try. You have access to pretty much every song ever recorded by anyone, anywhere and you can play those songs anytime you like, through wireless earbuds no bigger than a dime.

Automobiles are more reliable, water is cleaner, air is cleaner, no lead in the gasoline or its fumes or the exhaust emissions. Laparoscopic surgery means an appendix or gallbladder removal can be out-patient surgery and you're back on your feet in hours, not days or weeks. Dentistry does not involve spitting in a bowl.

Lifespan is 20 years longer. Since 1960, the largest gains in life expectancy occurred between 1970 and 1980—an increase of about three years from 70.8 to 73.7 years. In 2024, it is currently 79.3 years. Stents have cut open-heart surgeries in half.

In 2024, you can buy a four-door 2009 Honda Odyssey with room for eight passengers, a cupholders and individual climate control for every seat.

You can get kiwis, Chinese food, Thai, Japanese, Ethiopian, Korean, Vietnamese, Mexican, Brazilian, Australian food at the local supermarket or a nearby restaurant.

Your TV is not a monolithic block in the corner, it is thin as a dime-store novel, with a screen larger than a station wagon's front windshield, full color, stereo and it hangs on your wall. You have one in every room of your house. You didn't need to run cables to connect them to the antenna on the roof or to anything else.

Even if you're living on the street, take a look at the tent you just bought, stole, got donated to you. That space-age fabric didn't exist in 1980. Neither did the flexible self-stabilizing pole system, which allows tents to be setup on sidewalks. Couldn't do that in the 1970s, because no one could drive the tent stakes into the concrete. Tents could only be set up where there was earth to drive the stabilizing ropes. Look at the sleeping bags, the cooking utensils, the disposable needles and syringes. The K1 auto-disable syringe was invented in the late 1990s. Even life as a drug addict is better.

Stop telling me you got more for your money in the 1970s.
Anyone who tells me that is clearly either ignorant or a moron or they think I am one. I would rather be poor today than rich in 1970. A poor person today has access to a lot more comforts than even the rich did in the 60s and 70s.

Or, to put it a different way, consider this.

You can easily return to gaining the full value of the 1970 US dollar. Just follow these simple steps:
  • Get rid of the HVAC in your house
  • Cancel your internet
  • Take an ax to your microwave oven.
  • Destroy your computer and smartphone.
  • Maintain a 1970 Chevrolet Impala as your transportation.
    • Only buy used tires for it, so the tires never last more than 20,000 miles.
    • Now the Impala will need leaded gas, so you will have to create that yourself.
    • If you can't, then coat your food with a light film of lead, and put tincture of lead in your water, to simulate the effects of 1970 leaded gasoline emissions
  • Put asbestos into your ceiling tiles and the paint on your house walls
  • Return to 1970s dentistry (no suction, just spit in a bowl)
  • Stop eating Chinese takeout, refuse to order food delivered
  • Stop paying bills on line - checks and envelopes for all communications
  • Restrict yourself to watching just ABC, NBC, and CBS.
If you do these simple things, you will start getting the value our 1970 dollars used to buy.

The advantage to the rest of us: since you are no longer on the internet, we won't have to read your tired bullshit about "muh dollar doesn't buy as much as it useta"

The internet will be a better place as you spend your day screaming at clouds instead.

Freaking idiot.

Ethical AI Use

I train people to use technology as their primary job. Everyone thinks there are some kind of "copyright issues" associated with AI use, but that just doesn't appear to be the case.

Reading a book or news website, or using it to train yourself to understand English, so that you become marketable, is perfectly acceptable use. In the same way, using a book or news website to train an AI is really no different than using those same books or websites to train a non-native language speaker to understand and speak the language so s/he can get a better job. No copyright infringement there.

The US Copyright office does not recognize machine-output as something that can be copyrighted. So, using AI output as your own is perfectly legitimate. AI is a tool, like a printer. If I give a printer a text document, that document gets processed through the application software, the OS, the printer drivers and finally the printer, before the user gets a printed page, yet we don't claim the user is somehow being unethical when they pass off that printed page as their own work.

Yet that printed page is just as much an individual's own work as the output that comes from an AI after the user provides a prompt. Tens of thousands of people, millions of man-hours, came together so that the application, the OS, the drivers and the physical printer would do what the user wanted. Same thing is true of AI. Neither will do anything until the user prompts them to do it.

There are really no ethical or copyright issues involved in the use of AI. But, people don't want to hear that, so they shut their ears to it.

I discussed AI with a student. She could see that it would overtake various aspects of the technological job we train our students for. She observed that an AI could program a router or switch, or entire classes of devices, much faster than she could.

The advantage she felt she had was in orchestrating the overall purpose. While AI is good at grunt work like generating essays or programming interfaces, it doesn't do it for a reason, but only in response to user prompts. She didn't see that changing anytime soon.

She is certainly correct about the AI getting the step-by-step recipes done faster and more accurately. It's not clear to me whether she is correct about the AI not seeing the overarching purpose of a specific AI-curated event or situation.

This borders on the realm of the philosophical. It depends on whether or not purpose is ultimately a natural (i.e., mathematical) result or if it depends on some supernatural level of understanding. In short, this is really a question revolving around whether or not you believe in God.

If mankind is purely natural, and if math is truly the language of nature, then AI will be able to attain a truly purpose-driven perspective on what it does. In this perspective, AI and man are equally natural, and therefore can be equally powerful.

However, if mankind possesses a supernatural element, a strand in his/her makeup that transcends the natural/mathematical realm, then AI will not be able to capture the essence of "purpose." If man is truly a possessor of the "spark" of the divine, or somehow made "in the image and likeness of God", then AI - a natural, man-made artifice - cannot leap across that infinite chasm.

It will be interesting to watch how this pans out.

Female Sexual Predators

For the woman, the man is a means: the end is always the child.
        ~Friedrich Nietzsche

In this short video, Jordan Peterson outlines why the current male-female relationship situation is so dangerous for society. In his explanation, he elucidates the issues in an ancient debate.

One of the constant themes in the Old Testament is that the sexual appetites of WOMEN must be controlled.  In the OT, women are always the sexual predators. Same thing is true in the New Testament. The woman is caught in adultery, not the man. The woman is told she must love her husband, but the man is told he must actually die for his wife, the implication being that her faithfulness isn't guaranteed with any smaller male sacrifice.

The OT priests sacrificed animals for the unfaithful bride that is Israel, but that turns out not to be enough - Christianity discovers that the husband actually has to sacrifice himself to satisfy the blood lust of the bride and keep society stable. In that sense, the various Christian Bibles substantially tell the tale of the black widow spider, or the praying mantis and her mate. Christianity is the story of a powerful male being killed and consumed by the female for the sake of fecundity. The resurrection just continues the Good News story: a woman CAN have her cake and eat it too.  But, if it is any consolation, as she wipes her lips, the woman does say she feels really guilty about the whole thing.

Female hypergamy destroys societies. The Jews control hypergamy by requiring the man to maintain his wife in the style to which she was accustomed (Marylin Monroe indirectly alluded to this requirement in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), a right which many women consider foundational to their relationships.

... a rabbinical court can compel a husband to divorce his wife under certain circumstances: when he is physically repulsive because of some medical condition or other characteristic, when he violates or neglects his marital obligations (food, clothing and sexual intercourse)...

Islam handles female sexual predation by requiring the woman to be veiled and to have a male escort in all public venues. Proof of rape requires the testimony of four male witnesses, and rape can only be perpetrated against Muslim women. This veiling is not unique to Islam. Ultra-orthodox Judaism and Catholic female monasticism require women to be veiled in very similar fashions.

Christianity uses virginity of the Blessed Virgin as an archetype precisely because her virginity served as a model and control on female hypergamy. Notice that Mary is almost always dressed as what we would consider a medieval nun.

There was long a debate in the early Church concerning whether women should be allowed to remarry at all after the death of their husbands. The alternate argument, which eventually lost, was that marriage was an eternal sacrament, like baptism, confirmation and holy orders. Once you were married, re-marriage would be impossible because you were married to your spouse even after death. While this argument was lost, it is interesting that the argument was made, and considered merited, at all.

Ancient societies saw female sexual predators as much more dangerous than male sexual predators. I can see no evidence that their assessment was wrong.

A Relationship Epiphany

Everyone complains that men are terrible at relationships because they don't communicate, they don't talk about their feelings, they don't emote, etc. But, is that really true?

Consider these three videos:

Tik-Tok Transcript:

"You know what, I have a list and you can tell me if any of these ring a bell. These are all men who have had divorces initiated against them:

  1. Brad Pitt
  2. Johnny Depp
  3. Jeff Bezos
  4. Bill Gates
  5. Elon Musk
  6. Dr. Dre
  7. Ryan Reynolds
  8. Tom Brady
  9. Lance Armstrong
  10. Alex Rodriguez
  11. Channing Tatum
  12. Chris Rock
  13. Ben Affleck
  14. Chris Pratt
  15. Liam Hemsworth
  16. Ben Stiller
  17. David Duchovny,
  18. Orlando Bloom
  19. Tiger Wood
  20. Sean Penn
  21. Sylvester Stallone
  22. Paul McCartney
  23. Ryan Philippe
  24. Jason Mamoa
  25. Michael Jordan

These are all very attractive men, high status men, wealthy,  and even they can’t keep a chick. I consider myself kind of a normal dude. Bro, if Brad Pitt can’t keep a chick, I’m f*cked."

Youtube Transcript:

"What is a woman truly saying if they're saying if they say 'I don't like nice guys'?"

They're saying my nervous system does not produce the effect that I call love around people who do not send it into some kind of fight-or-flight response. When I am met with someone who does not make me chase, when I am met with someone who doesn't make me feel I have to earn their love, who doesn't play games, who doesn't give me anxiety by being consistent for three days and then dropping off the radar for five or a week, when I am with someone who doesn't do those things it does not feel like love to me, it doesn't feel like passion, it doesn't feel like fireworks, it doesn't feel like the thing I think I'm supposed to feel..."

Facebook video

Interviewer: More often than not, of all the relationships you have had, do you end the relationship or the guy?

  • Woman 1: I've ended every single relationship.
  • What about you?
  • Woman 2: I've also ended every single relationship.
  • How many relationships have you been in?
  • Woman 2: Three
  • Woman 1: Three
  • What about you?
  • Women 3: Mostly me
  • How many relationships have you been in?
  • Women 3: Four or five
  • What about you?
  • Woman 4 I've ended them all, I think like five
  • Woman 5: I've ended them all, and I've only been in two
  • What about you?
  • Woman 6: I've been in five or six, and only once has someone else ended the relationship
  • Woman 7: 75% me, eight or nine relationships.
  • Woman 8: Four relationships and I've ended all of them
  • Woman 9: I've ended all three

Whoah! So hold on, a typical complaint I hear from women is why are men so commitment-phobic? Why are men scared of commitment? Why don't men want to get married? All of you, it's almost unanimous, have ended all of your relationships. Once you get commitment, you overwhelmingly end it."

Women don't like being accountable.

Conclusion

Keep in mind, women initiate 70% of divorces. College-educated women initiate 90% of the divorces.

So, people are wrong to ask why men won't commit. The correct question: "why do women almost always initiate break-up and divorce?" Commitment is not a man problem. Commitment is a problem with women.

Women don't like to face the fact that it is female insecurity and female incompetence at maintaining relationships which drives almost all relationship problems. Men don't have relationship problems, women do.

Women are absolute crap at maintaining relationships. They project their failures and their incompetence onto the men. It ain't us, ladies. It's you.

An Easter Meditation

If any of the soldiers at the tomb converted and were executed, they would have been the first martyrs, martyred even before Steven, Proto-Martyr. That seems unlikely. I mean, how would the Church have missed that?

So, conversion-execution definitely didn't happen.

If any of the soldiers guarding the tomb converted but were not martyred, everyone was very quiet about it. Think of the picayune details that we are given. We even know Joseph of Nicodemus donated the tomb. That's a pretty minor player. But, despite naming all these minor players, no one mentions the soldier(s) who converted as a result of what they saw at the tomb? Seriously? They talk about every other player, even women, but not actual eyewitnesses to the actual resurrection?

But you imply Luke was thinking to himself, "Sure, I've interviewed a lot of witnesses for my Gospel and for Acts, and soldier George is an eye witness to the single most important event in this entire story, the very reason we are even writing any of this down... Because of what he personally witnessed, he became a follower of Jesus Christ.... hmm...

However, in the 'cons' column, soldier George isn't an apostle, so his conversion story and the details of what he saw at the tomb aren't nearly as important as all the things that the women and the apostles DID NOT see, so ... yeah.... let's leave George's account out. It is not really relevant"

Somehow, I doubt that would be Luke's reaction to news that a Roman guard converted as a result of what he saw at the tomb.

Which indicates that none of the soldiers who actually would have been eyewitnesses to the actual event of the resurrection ever converted.

FYI, the story of  Longinus doesn't appear until the fourth century. The soldier's name was unknown to the Gospel writers, but the Gospel of Nicodemus, from which the name first derives, also names the thieves on either side of Jesus.

Subverting Nature

"The entire leftist regime is an artificial construct reliant on the subversion of nature via a leviathan capable of wealth extraction. They treat the return of the natural order as an existential threat because it is."

But part of that same "subversion of nature" is air-conditioning, vermin control, antibiotics, combustion engines, fresh oranges in winter, etc.

Putting a uterus into a man's body is the leftist version of putting air-conditioning into private homes. When even genetics can be manipulated (thus the leftist hard-on for mRNA vaccines), then there are no limits.

It's a real existential question. Are we subverting nature? It's not like we aren't still bound by the laws of physics and chemistry. It's just our power in physics and chemistry, our intimate knowledge of those laws, allows us to manipulate biology to a hitherto unequalled degree.

The "natural order" is that our lives are brutish, painful, disease-ridden and short. Pretty much everyone rejects at least some part of the "natural order." That's why we wear clothes and use fire to cook our food. The question is whether there is a line that can/should be drawn.

The whole transgenderism push is insane for those of us who see biology as a fundamentally different science than physics or chemistry. Christians see biology as bound up with personhood, being in the image and likeness of God. But not all worldviews, not even all theological worldviews, actually accept personhood as a valid quiddity.

To those who reject the idea of personhood, those who instead see biology as a mere extension of physics and chemistry, biology as an application of those two areas of knowledge, than putting a uterus into a man's body is no more "subversion" than any other application of physics and chemistry we have hitherto made.

If we do not see biology as being ordered to a higher good, to wit, imaging the likeness of God, then anything can be done. Darwin implied that biology has no "higher purpose". Dawkins made Darwin's supposition explicit, insisting that there is no God and there is no higher purpose. Everything evolves randomly. Then Dawkins denies his own premise by writing a book called "The Selfish Gene", a book whose title explicitly insists that a random DNA string has its own will, and wills its own success.

But, if there is no higher purpose, then the only purpose is the purpose we bring to the table. If I am fertile, I can LARP as a eunuch by using contraception. If I am a man, I can LARP as a woman by putting on a dress and insisting everyone calls me "she/her". The body becomes a tool. A furnace can be used to forge steel or incinerate corpses. A tool can be used for any purpose. Once our bodies are seen as Cartesian tools, divorced from intellect and will, then why can't surgery be used to redefine our persons? We become the tool we use.

St. Paul's World

1Now concerning the things whereof you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2But for fear of fornication, let every man have his own wife: and let every woman have her own husband....  6But I speak this by indulgence, not by commandment. 7For I would that all men were even as myself. But every one hath his proper gift from God: one after this manner, and another that. (1 Cor 7:1-7)

After two millennia, St. Paul's world is finally coming into focus, where all men are like him, at least in regards to conceiving children. As anyone paying attention knows, the global total fertility rate (TFR) is dropping like a rock. According to a study of 204 countries published in the Lancet, 76% percent will fall below population replacement rates by 2050 (estimated global TFR 1.83), 97 percent will fall below by 2100 (estimated global TFR 1.59).  By 2100, only six countries will still have positive population growth.

I have pointed out elsewhere that the Catholic Faith was very successful in agrarian, subsistence-level societies, but does very badly (as do all faith systems) in technological, surplus-goods societies. While I could see that this was the case, I couldn't figure out why. However, while reading the following essay, this line jumped out. It resolved the issue:

This deep desire, by both men and women, to do meaningful and important work — not just have well-paid jobs — has a substantial negative impact on their desire to have children.

The idea that every man and woman has meaningful and important work to do, this is an ancient and foundationally Catholic idea, bound up in Genesis itself:

The gods themselves exemplified the Greco-Roman attitude. In the entire pantheon, only one god was crippled and ugly - Hephaestus/Vulcan. He was the smith, the maker of technology, the only one who got filthy dirty in his craft. His feet were on backwards and he had been cast from the heights as a child because of his extreme ugliness....

... [But] out of all the pantheons of all the gods in all the cultures of the world, I am aware of only one culture which rejected the idea that manual labor was not fit work for divinity. That would be the Hebrew faith, the faith whose God actually worked with His own hands in the clay of the earth and breathed His own life into the clay His hands had formed....

...Labor was hard, but suffering in one's work was reasonable because... well, because we are meant to imitate Christ and HE suffered in His work. He was a carpenter, He worked in wood as He had long before worked with His Father in clay.

Thus, John Paul II, in Laborem Exercens, can say:

Work is a good thing for man-a good thing for his humanity-because through work man not only transforms nature, adapting it to his own needs, but he also achieves fulfilment as a human being and indeed, in a sense, becomes “more a human being”.

This emphasis on the divine image that is manual labor is precisely why the Catholic Faith was particularly suited to agrarian societies. But, besides emphasizing the importance of manual labor, Catholic Faith did something else no one had ever done before.

The Marriage of Intellect and Work

I have written elsewhere about the fact that intellectual superheroes are functionally non-existent in comic-book universes. Sure, some characters are described as being super-intelligent, but none of them actually display that super-intelligence. Felicity Smoak can crack codes and write programs in a time frame absolutely impossible for normal human beings, but when she is finally given physical deeds of derring-do to do, that is, when she finally becomes a classic superhero, she is immediately killed.

Ancient agrarian societies have many variations on Hercules, but, apart from Odysseus and Loki, they have very few intellectual heroes. When intellectual heroes appear, they are tricksters and cheats, their good qualities matched or outweighed by the damage they do to those around them. Remember, while Odysseus is the hero of the story, he is able to save only himself. He gets all of his companions killed.

Agrarian, subsistence-level societies value strength over intellect because agrarian societies don't expect anything to change. Great intellect is not needed. The great-grandson's life is not expected to be any different from that of his great-grandfather. Children live the professions of their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. Intellectual pursuits are the hobby of the rich, a way of virtue-signaling one's superiority to those who worked with their hands. Most of the ancient philosophers came from wealthy families.

The Catholic Faith changed this equation. Intellectual pursuits were originally just a form of wealthy virtue-signaling. With Catholicism, instead of merely virtue-signaling, the intellectual was expected to do meaningful work that directly benefited others. Catholic intellectuals did not just answer theological questions, such as the true nature(s) of the God-man, or the intricacies of how the sacraments worked. Intellectuals could also answer questions about the natural world, the world God had made with His own hands.

As a result, Catholic society was no longer bifurcated into a slave world and an intellectual world, as it had been in the pagan Greco-Roman age. Rather, the two worlds were joined together in a common task: building up the city of God. The intellectuals were now tasked with improving the lot of the wage-slave. That meant the intellectuals were duty-bound to lighten the burden of the slave, make his work easier, encourage the use of tools, investigate the physical world to assist in the work of creating a richer life for all. Monastics built labor-saving machinery so they could spend more time at the altar. This labor-saving machinery also allowed the common laborer to do the same.

Contrast this attitude with the ancients. The ancient Greeks and Romans knew about steam power and automation, but Greco-Roman intellectuals never thought to apply these advances to assist common people. Precisely because the God of the Hebrews and the Catholics was the god of slaves, a God who worked with His own hands in the clay, the Catholic Faith was originally the faith of slaves and women:

For as many of you as have been baptized in Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:27-28)

The unrecognized intellectuals within these groups finally had an outlet for their intellectual activity, a way to meld the work of the hands with the work of the mind. The celibate life became a way for a man or woman to devote him/herself to intellectual pursuits. Even the slave or the woman could do it. The slave priest or the Christian consecrated virgin could receive enough money to live on from fellow Christians while devoting themselves not just to the spiritual needs, but also the physical needs, of their fellow slaves.

This had never before been possible. In both Judaism and pagan societies, having children and family was a divine ordinance: For instance, in both Hinduism and Judaism, the priesthoods are hereditary. Pagan Rome had Vestal Virgins, but there were only ever six of them at a time. Even then, they took their vows between the ages of six and ten, and they were sworn to celibacy for thirty years. Widespread celibacy was seen as an attack on society, the loss of fertility that was created by celibacy was penalized by the community.

The First Great Divorce

Catholic celibacy, on the other hand, was celebrated. It was not restricted to a tiny priestly elite, rather, it was recommended for everyone who could handle it. Catholics deliberately and systematically destroyed family life as the highest goal, and replaced it. Celibacy became the highest goal. This was a radically new idea. However, as the historical dominance of celibate men and women in technological progress shows, the deliberate destruction of the family  turned out to be beneficial not just for spiritual pursuits, but also for technological progress.

Celibacy, the release from family obligations, allowed the great majority of scientific advances made in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Right up through the Enlightenment, deacons, priests and bishops made up the majority of what we now call scientists. The celibacy that allowed intellectuals to focus entirely and exclusively on intellectual pursuits led to the massive success of those same intellectual pursuits. Because Catholic celibacy was now the highest goal in life, and because celibacy could be pursued by anyone, everyone with the capacity to be an intellectual could now become one. It is estimated that between 15 and 25% of the Medieval European population was celibate. This was possibly the largest creation of a dedicated intellectual workforce in history.

The Second Great Divorce

Clearly. Catholic celibacy promoted scientific progress. So, why did the science and faith divorce? They divorced because people began to realize that

This deep desire, by both men and women, to do meaningful and important work — not just have well-paid jobs...

did not actually require the religious aspect in order to succeed. Procreative control could be accomplished using other rationales. Thus, we should not be surprised to see the "conflict thesis", the idea that religion is opposed to science, arose precisely over the problem of procreation.

Darwinian biology directly implied "eugenics". Eugenics was a radically new attack on family life. Darwin's work implied that, not only was celibacy, or at least the refusal to procreate, a positive good, celibacy was so good that it should be imposed on people who were not biologically qualified to procreate. Religion permitted celibacy for those capable of intellectual pursuits. Science now wanted to impose celibacy on those who were not capable of intellectual pursuits. Both Catholicism and science saw themselves and their worldview as improving society, but the question of which should have the power over procreation now became the centerpiece. Because Catholicism refused to coerce celibacy, it was branded anti-scientific. Eugenics fought, and still fights, Christianity on this point.

Now, it is one of the great ironies of evolutionary theory that, apart from Darwin himself, the people who proposed survival of the fittest, and who stress the importance of eugenics don't themselves have replacement level fertility. That is, ardent evolutionists apparently don't see themselves as worthy of procreating. But, leaving this aside, we can now see why surplus-goods societies don't have replacement-level fertility.

This deep desire, by both men and women, to do meaningful and important work — not just have well-paid jobs — has a substantial negative impact on their desire to have children....

... Work is a good thing for man-a good thing for his humanity-because through work man not only transforms nature, adapting it to his own needs, but he also achieves fulfilment as a human being and indeed, in a sense, becomes “more a human being”.

Child-Free: More Human?

Everyone wants to "become more a human being." People began to see it was not the religion, but the worldview that allowed people to pursue child-free lives, that made radical help for the poorest of the poor, possible:

31 And they that use this world, as if they used it not: for the fashion of this world passeth away. 32 But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife, is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please God.  33 But he that is with a wife, is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife: and he is divided. 34 And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinketh on the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinketh on the things of the world, how she may please her husband

Childhood and poverty are closely linked. The corporal works of mercy are identical whether a parent applies them to his child or a celibate applies them to the poor. Both the Catholic and the technologist want "the fashion of this world to pass away." Both want a better life for the children, the only difference being that the technologist, the social justice warrior, sees the government as the Church and the poor as the children. Both realize that avoiding procreation helps bring those who avoid it into razor-sharp focus on what matters. The focus of the child-free person allows that person to build a better life for everyone.

The Logical Conclusion

So, if we are to free the world of poverty, and if the poor man is but a kind of child, then the technology which rids the world of poverty establishes the greatest good. The child-free society that Paul originally recommended to everyone moves everyone towards that good. Like the child-free monks of old, technologists strive to be free of the concerns of this world. The focus on technological advance and labor-saving machinery can remove our concerns about food, clean water, medical care, housing, poverty in general. We can achieve a technologically poverty-free society by pursuing a child-free life.

People who have children are not as good as people who don't. Catholic faith has long taught this as a foundational truth. Can anyone blame the world for taking the lesson to heart?.

As the original essayist proposed, it may soon be the case that work and progress will be made so easy, that child-bearing and child-rearing may again be permitted to become an important work to society. After all, as the essayist notes, the rich are now having more children than they have traditionally had in the last few centuries. However, it is also possible that most modern cultures will follow the example of Rome, and simply collapse from dropping fertility rates.

But, for good or ill, the dropping fertility rate of our surplus-goods societies are merely the  world answering the radical call St. Paul made two millennia ago. At the moment, all are becoming like him, and forgoing procreation.

Marriage, in Fine

Gender is an attribute of grammar, not sexuality.

Your sex is established at conception, and cannot be changed.
The word "marriage" appeared around 1300 and likely descended from the Old French "mariage" of the 12th Century and the Vulgar Latin "maritaticum" of the 11th Century, ultimately tracing to the Latin "maritatus", past participle of "maritare". Thus, the word "marriage" ultimately derives from Latin mātrimōnium, which combines the two concepts: mater meaning "mother" and the suffix -monium signifying "action, state, or condition."
Marriage referred to a right to inheritance. A man in the Roman Empire might have many concubines, sex slaves, prostitutes, etc., and might conceive children with all of them. However, only the offspring of the woman he married would have a right to inherit his estate.

In short, to "marry" someone refers to the man's ability to make a woman into a mother, who bore children who could inherit. Thus, someone conceived and born as a woman cannot "marry" another woman, nor can someone conceived and born as a man "marry" another man.

Prenups and Catholics

Why Women Should Want a Prenup

The linked TikTok above makes a hell of a good point.

Now, according to Catholic doctrine, it is a sin, and renders a marriage invalid, for you and your prospective spouse to write a prenup. It is worse if, as in this example, one of the two spouses might attempt to write their own, without telling their partner.

But it's not like you don't end up with a prenup. You always have a prenup. If you don't write it, then the government writes it. .

Now, you can argue that since you and your fiancee didn't write it, it isn't your fault that this situation exists. OK. But you cannot know you are even entering into a marriage. Even if you have correct intent, etc., your intended may not.

You know you're receiving absolution, you know you're receiving the Eucharist, you know you are being confirmed, baptized, anointing of the sick, ordained.

But you never really know if you're getting married, nor do you know, once through the ceremony, if you are, in fact, married.

Bible Lengths

Jewish version

The Hebrew Bible is generally considered to consist of 24 books, but this number is somewhat arbitrary, as (for example) it regards 12 separate books of minor prophets as a single book. The traditional rabbinic count of 24 books appears in the Talmud and numerous works of midrash

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_Bible

But even here, it depends on whether you accept the corrupted and relatively less complete Masoretic text (written in Assyrian Hebrew) or the Septuagint (written in Greek). Keep in mind, the Masoretic isn't written in the same Hebrew that Moses used. The original Old Testament scriptures were written in Paleo-Hebrew, a text closely related to the ancient Phoenician writing system. The Masoretic Text, on the other hand, is written with an alphabet which was borrowed from Assyria (Persia) around the 6th-7th century B.C., and is almost 1000 years newer than the form of writing used by Moses, David, and most of the Old Testament authors.

Luther's version

Luther built his Old Testament on the corrupted, incomplete Masoretic text. Luther also considered the New Testament books of Hebrews, James, Jude, and the Revelation to be "disputed books", which he included in his translation but placed separately at the end in his New Testament published in 1522. His translation also places what Catholics view as the deuterocanonical books in an intertestamental section, between the Old Testament and New Testament; he called these books Apocrypha. The books of the Apocrypha, in the Lutheran tradition, both Old and New Testament, are non-canonical, but "worthy of reverence."

Following Luther's lead, in 1596 Jacob Lucius published a Bible at Hamburg which labeled as Apocrypha Luther's four Antilegomena: Hebrews, James, Jude and Revelation; Lucius explained this category of "Apocrypha" as "That is, books that are not held equal to the other holy Scripture". David Wolder, the pastor of Hamburg's Church of St. Peter, published in the same year a triglot Bible which labeled those books as "non canonical". J. Vogt published a Bible at Goslar in 1614 similar to Lucius'. In Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus published in 1618 the Gustavus Adolphus Bible with those four books labeled as "Apocr(yphal) New Testament." The Luther Bible is widely used by Anabaptist Christians, such as the Amish.

Other Protestant versions

The non-Lutheran Protestant versions settled on 66 books, keeping Luther's Old Testament, but rejecting his shortened version of the New Testament.

Catholic version

Catholic Bible has 73 books (if Lamentations is separate from Jeremiah). It is based on the Septuagint for the Old Testament.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Bible

Coptic version

The Coptic Bible has 74 books, it includes the Prayer of Manasseh.

https://copticchurch.online/en/bible-books/

Slavic Orthodox version

The Slavic Bible has in excess of 70 books, but is based on the corrupted Masoretic text.

Greek Orthodox version

The Greek Orthodox Bible—without an official number—is somewhat larger, with somewhere between 75 and 79 books.

Ethiopian Christian version

The Ethiopian Bible, which is perhaps the oldest Christian Bible, includes somewhere between 81 to 84 books, depending on different factors.
