Swayed by the fact that we home educate, our pastor has written the Bishop in this regard and the probability is high that our family will be overflowing with sacramental grace in their restored order this Easter Vigil thanks to you.
I love you man.stevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02404300118679997839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-46835299954513810242008-02-21T08:18:00.000-06:002008-02-21T08:18:00.000-06:00Hey, Steve, While reading a different blog tonigh...Hey, Steve,

While reading a different blog tonight I came across yours and wanted to let you know just last year Bishop Alvaro Corrada of the Tyler diocese was looking into going back to this Tradition. Yes, I did know that this is the 150th anniversary year of the Lourdes apparitions, and this is 2008, not 2006.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-28706526968341377162008-02-10T16:46:00.000-06:002008-02-10T16:46:00.000-06:00By the time Bernadette Soubirous was having her vi...By the time Bernadette Soubirous was having her visions of Our Lady of Fatima in the 1800's

Oops. I can't believe I read over that before and didn't catch the mitake. St. Bernadette's apparition was Our Lady of Lourdes, in 1856. Our Lady of Fatima was in 1917.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-41391479988233301892008-02-03T20:48:00.000-06:002008-02-03T20:48:00.000-06:00There is an inherent conflict here that will only ...There is an inherent conflict here that will only grow. As Catholic schools shrink, so will their ability to pass on Catholic teachings directly (bypassing the possibility of poorly educated parents). As more and more of the burden falls on Catholic parents to correctly educate their children if they do not send them to Catholic schools, the Catholic church is finding that most adults only have a small amount of the knowledge needed to educate their children properly and many parishes do not have staff informed enough to give references other than "read the bible", especially with a dwindling number of priests available . That is why, in my area at least, several local bishops require longer RCIA and RCIC classes. You're right, it justifies their staffs reasons to exist but they are increasingly the only connection to correct teachings of the church. I think bishops realize that longer RCIA/RCIC courses are their last attempt to get it right.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08381087750301180720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-76060611833539549682008-02-03T17:53:00.000-06:002008-02-03T17:53:00.000-06:00Well, Bob, that's an interesting theory, but it tu...Well, Bob, that's an interesting theory, but it turns out not to be the case.

You see, most DREs really only know how to talk to children - they have no clue how to deliver the Faith at an adult level, mostly because THEY don't understand it at an adult level. I've seen men and women with doctorates who were caught in that situation.

So it really means re-tooling the entire parish. That's a non-trivial task.Steve Kellmeyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07509461318016670424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-80588713163803550702008-02-03T14:32:00.000-06:002008-02-03T14:32:00.000-06:00If the bishops declared that parents were expected...If the bishops declared that parents were expected to provide the sacramental education to their kids, the parish RE staff need not worry about being out of a job. The RE staff would have to shift to educating parents, because generally the parents themselves don't know what their children need to be taught about the sacraments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-9821904913864851152008-02-01T07:06:00.000-06:002008-02-01T07:06:00.000-06:00Well, as they say, "Sometimes a little revolution ...Well, as they say, "Sometimes a little revolution is a good thing." But seriously, I wonder how long it will take for anyone else to notice those two paragraphs (17 & 18) of Pope Benedicts document and then actually start to do something concrete and constructive with it.

And then, what kind of spiritual dynamite is it going to take to get today's spiritually lackadaisacal parents in gear to actually start catechizing their own kids.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774317.post-66530295447576277012008-01-31T21:22:00.000-06:002008-01-31T21:22:00.000-06:00Hopefully this problem will be solved sooner rathe...Hopefully this problem will be solved sooner rather than later. And all it takes is one papal motu proprio reprobating Confirmation after First Communion.

By the way, "neophytes" means "new plants," or "sprouts," not "newly-enlightened." Phytos means plant, photos means light.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
